“The old Lakota was wise. He knew that a man’s, or a woman’s heart away from nature becomes hard; he knew that a lack of respect for growing, living things soon led to a lack of respect for humans too.”
-Luther Standing Bear
The team at Tree Heart Lodge are working with Trees for Survival and Friends of Te Wairoa in consultation with Auckland Council to improve the waterways. We have planted 2000 trees beside the pond and the two stream inlets. Fencing off the waterways has also been a priority and have been fenced by Adam Batten at Fenceman.
We have eradicated a lot of blackberry and gorse but have more to attend to. It is our aim over the next few years to rid the blackberry from beside and across the 1 kilometre of stream. We also appreciate any funding by Council and any volunteer work. Trees for Survival are doing a tremendous job with the waterways cleanup by their planting projects.
We are also attending to pest control measures with bait stations every 2 kilometres.
We appreciate any advice and assistance in this direction as we want to improve our environment and also create a beautiful scene for your teams to connect with both environment and people.
